Why Does The NHS Continue To Fail Women & What You Can Do To Help Yourself

Women in the UK Are Being Failed by the NHS

Across the UK, women are waiting years, or even decades for diagnoses that should take months. Their symptoms are dismissed, minimised, or mislabelled as anxiety, stress, or “normal for women”.
Often, by the time they finally get a diagnosis, their lives, careers, relationships, fertility, and health have often already been damaged beyond repair.

This is not rare - This is not anecdotal - This is systemic - and it has to stop!

waiting lists

Women in the UK are disproportionately affected by:

  • Delayed diagnoses for serious, life-altering conditions

  • Under-investigation of pain, fatigue, neurological, and autoimmune symptoms

  • Fragmented care, where no one joins the dots across systems

  • Gender bias in how symptoms are interpreted, documented, and believed

Conditions such as endometriosis, ADHD, autism, POTS, hypermobile EDS, MCAS, autoimmune disease, migraine, and chronic pelvic pain are repeatedly missed, misdiagnosed, or dismissed—despite clear patterns and growing evidence.

The result is a healthcare system that too often:

  • Treats women’s symptoms as psychological first, physical second

  • Waits for disease to become severe before taking it seriously

  • Forces patients to become experts just to be heard
